Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Alibaba Group, China's biggest e-commerce site, launched search Web site Etao.com to challenge the leading status of Baidu Inc. (BIDU) and Google Inc. (GOOG) in the Chinese market. The launch of the beta, or test, version of the Etao search site (Etao.com) last weekend comes as companies scramble for market share following Google Inc.'s decision to close its China search site March 22. Microsoft has sent out invitations on Thursday for the launch of Internet Explorer 9 Beta the latest (and best) iteration of its market-leading Web browser, on September 15 in San Francisco. The beta launch in September is expected to include the major features and other new features including the ones already included in the previews. We will see IE9 in full glory from September, for the first time after months of speculation surrounding what it will be all about. Financial analysts' meeting on 29th July, Steve Ballmer made his clear statement yet on the company's vision for tablet computing. Microsoft has been in the tablet game for many years, but was never able to bring their product into the mainstream. Apple has done it in a matter of months. ZDNet's Mary Jo is reporting on a rumor of Microsoft Silverlight coming to the Apple iPhone. This is based on a WSJ report that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer may make an appearance at the upcoming Apple World Wide Developers Conference. The speculation centers around talk that Ballmer himself may introduce some kind of add-on for Visual Studio 2010 to support development of iPhone apps using Microsoft’s tool suite. [More]

The “biggest blockbuster game of the year” and the most eagerly awaited game of the year by publisher Microsoft Game Studios, the latest addition to the Halo universe, Halo: Reach, has been officially branded with a retail release date.
Microsoft has announced that the upcoming Halo series game Halo: Reach will be released on September 14. Bungie Studios has developed this game exclusively for the Xbox 360 console. The software giant noted that more than 2.7 million users joined in for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta program.
